The name is a compound of Paul Kruger, the former President of the South African Republic, and rand, the South African unit of currency. The obverse depicts the profile of Paul Kruger, the former President of Zar from 1883-1902. The Image of Kruger is surrounded by the inscriptions of “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA,” stating the name of the country in both English and Afrikaans.
The reverse side of the Krugerrand features the springbok antelope and the words “KRUGERRAND,” “1971” and “FYNGOUD 1 OZ FINE GOLD.”
As this coin is struck from 22ct gold, it attracts 10% GST which is included in the purchase price.
