The reverse portrays two kangaroos leaping across the water, with rippling water, splashes and a mountainous Australian landscape forming the background. The design captures the strength, freedom and enduring spirit of Australia's most recognisable native animal.

Included within the reverse is a special "40" privy mark, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Australian Nugget—the first official Australian legal tender gold coin series introduced by The Perth Mint in 1986. The design also incorporates the inscription "KANGAROO", The Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark, together with the 2026 year-date, weight and purity.

The obverse features the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, together with the monetary denomination.
